DRY SKIN

Dry skin is a very common skin condition where the outer layer of the skin (the epidermis) loses its natural oils and lubricants due to various reasons. Loss of natural oils makes the skin fragile and sensitive and thus results in dryness. Most common causes for this condition being cold winters, excessive exposure to sunlight, dehydrated skin steamy showers, harsh soaps, and aging.

SYMPTOMS

Rough skin, tightness of the skin after shower, itching, flaking, scaling or peeling of the skin, red patches.

REMEDIES

Water- Keep yourself hydrated with 8 glasses of water every day.

Foods- Rich in essential fatty acids found in walnuts, flaxseed, salmon and olive oil help skin cells stay hydrated.

Green gram - Substitute your harsh soaps with green gram powder which acts as a natural scrub and an excellent moisturizer. It is an excellent ancient home remedy for dry and flaky skin.

Yogurt- Lactic acid in yogurt helps in hydrating the skin .Apply plain yogurt on the face and all over the body. After 15 minutes take a shower with lukewarm water.

Oatmeal-  Make a paste of oatmeal powder, honey and milk .Apply it  on the face and allow it to dry before you  wash it off  with lukewarm water.

Rose water- Apply cold rose water on the dry skin every night .It will keep the skin cool and moist. Apply rose water after every shower to reduce dryness.

Banana- Mash half a banana, add 2 tablespoon honey, apply it on the face evenly. Allow it to dry before rinsing of with lukewarm water.

Oil- Massage your body with coconut/olive/almond oil 15 minutes before shower.

Avocado- Avocado works wonders on the skin. Make a paste of half an avocado, add 2 tsp of honey and 1tsp of yogurt/milk. Apply it evenly on the face and wash it off with lukewarm water. Avocado is an excellent moisturizer.            

Coconut milk- Massage your skin with coconut milk before a shower which will help to remove dryness and keeps the skin moist and supple. 

PREVENTION

Apply natural ingredients based moisturizer after every shower.

Apply sunscreen before going out in the sun.

Avoid harsh soaps.

Follow proper diet with an intake of vitamin A, vitamin E and vitamin C rich food.

Regular use of home remedies will help in getting rid of dry skin.
