If you dream of hair that is long, strong, shiny and soft, then you need to start using castor oil right away to reap all those benefits. Castor oil has many beneficial effects for the health of your hair. Thinning hair and hair loss due to falling or breakage are very common problems for both men and women. And there are many cosmetic products available in the market which are full of chemicals and do more harm than good. Before your extreme hair fall leads to bald patches on your scalp, you need to take some drastic action.

Castor oil can be your savior here. Due to its nourishing properties your hair can regain all its lost glory. Castor oil contains antioxidants, omega 3 acids and other elements that promote hair growth.

  1. Boosts Hair Growth

The omega 3 boosts the hair follicle and triggers the growth of stunted hair roots. This helps to fight back thinning of hair or tendency for baldness. The omega 3 acids also strengthen the hair follicle and protect it from the damage caused by the sun and other pollutants. The antioxidants in the oil protect the hair from frizz which also prevents hair fall due to breakage and brings back a bouncy, voluminous feel to the hair. The antioxidants boost blood supply to the scalp which means that the roots get more nourishment and hair grows faster. It also conditions the hair roots and the follicle making the hair grow stronger and shinier.

  1. Makes Hair Glossy

The hair becomes to lose its luster with time and this happens because the keratin in the hair becomes weak. When you apply castor oil, its thick consistency coats each strand of hair and strengthens the keratin present in it. This returns the shine back to the hair and makes it appear glossy and silky.

  1. Treats Scalp Infections

Castor oil also has antifungal and antiseptic properties which can treat infections of the scalp. It also improves the quality of the scalp by fighting off organisms that can cause infections in the scalp making it dry or flaky. The cleansing effect on the scalp makes it easier for hair to grow faster.

How To Use Castor Oil

Castor oil is fairly thick in consistency and can be difficult to remove once applied. Hence it is recommended that it be mixed with another carrier oil for enhanced effects. The best combination is mixing castor oil and olive oil together to create a beautiful hair potion. Applying a concoction of castor oil and olive oil has many combined benefits. It makes the hair frizz free and helps it grow longer. It can also prevent an infestation of lice on the scalp. When mixed together, olive oil and castor oil help protect the hair from sun damage by strengthening the keratin layer. This makes the hair resistant to breakage and also prevents tangling. For those who have unruly curly hair, this mixture can feel like it is heaven-sent. It deep conditions the hair and relaxes the curls making them a lot easier to manage. Even for thinner hair, the mixture of olive and castor oil adds a certain volume and bounce.

To use the oil, mix the two together in a microwave safe bowl and heat it for 30 seconds. Now comb out your hair and detangle it. Now using a cotton ball, dip it into the oil and apply it to sections of the scalp till you have covered the entire head. Now massage your scalp in circular movements till the oil is spread all over the hair roots. Now using your hands, apply the remainder of the oil on the hair strands from roots to tips. Do not rub it vigorously as it can cause breakage. Once the oil has been applied all over, roll up your hair and put on a shower cap for 1 hour. After this you can wash out the oil with shampoo. You may need to rinse it with shampoo twice to remove all the oil. Do not use very hot water to wash it off.

Castor oil is an amazing at-home treatment for the hair. Just apply it once a week and it will begin to show you results in no time.
