Dr. Ann E. Rogers says, not having enough sleep minimizes insulin resistance, which is associated with an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and that can be very quickly induced by a single night's total sleep loss.

Importance of sleep cannot be ignored; it plays a vital role in good health and over all well-being throughout our life. Getting quality sleep can aid to protect our mental & physical health and keeps our heart healthy naturally; reason being it is actively involved in healing and fixing of our heart and blood vessels. Sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.

During sleep, our body keeps on working to contribute for healthy brain function and maintain our physical health. Sleep contributes a valuable support in healthy growth and development of children.

For example, continues sleep deficiency can increase risk for some chronic health problems. It also can affect how well you think, react, work, learn, and get along with others.

Blood pressure- People who sleep five hours or less a night are at higher risk of developing high blood pressure. Sleep helps your blood regulate stress hormones and manages your nervous system in order to keep it healthy. Over time, a lack of sleep could degrade your body's potential to regulate stress hormones an can lead to high blood pressure. Sleeping seven to eight hours a night can play an important role in the treatment and prevention of high blood pressure.

Stress relief- It is said and you all must have heard also that our body repairs itself when we snooze. Sleep helps to relief stress of your body like every other natural stress relief method does. It allows the body's stress hormone levels a chance to return to normal after stress is experienced. Some things that are mentioned below can be experienced if you are sleep deprived;

  • Stress hormone level usually remains high in an unhealthy way.
  • It becomes difficult to concentrate on things.
  • It prevents cellular skin to get repaired.
  • One must feel tired and irritable throughout the day.

Sleep is not only important for adults but for children as well for hormonal changes, which is crucially needed for healthy development and growth of your health.

Sleep and diabetes- According to recent researches, there is strong link between your sleep and diabetes. How well, little or long sleep, can help to decide whether you will get affected with diabetes or not. Less sleep or rest disturbs your body’s “circadian” flow. If this rhythm gets agitated then your body reacts less to insulin (hormone that helps your cells turn sugar into energy). And when it happens, it leads to diabetes.

Experts aren’t sure why habit of poor sleep can lead to the disease. But it is clear and sensible idea to get quality shut-eye and make it your habits.

 

Sleep for beauty- sleep play an important role to enhance our natural beauty. “Lack of sleep increases stress hormones in our body that accelerate the severity of inflammatory skin problems and issues such as acne or psoriasis”, explained by experts. Poor sleep may lead various skin related issues such as;

  • Less sleep worsens existing skin conditions
  • Lessens skin's natural beauty.
  • Increases immune-related skin problems
  • contributes to weight gain
  • dark circles
  • forms fine line and creases

So it is always recommended to have 7-8 hours of quality sleep to stay happy, healthy & fit.
