There is no better feeling in the world that to wake up to a steaming hot cup of tea. A simple cup of chai can make or break your day, after all the first thing that happens in your day decides the rest of your day. Lately everyone is going green and healthy. Suddenly the green tea, herbal tea, oolong tea, jasmine tea all are the talk of the town. Yes, they are healthy and all, even I love drinking green tea, but sometimes it gets boring, especially for people like me, who love to bring changes in their lives. So one fine morning I was sitting next to the window, sipping my green tea, thinking of a new and innovative way to drink my green tea, to break out of the boredom and that is when I thought how about a green tea smoothie. But before I could come up with a recipe of my own, I decided to Google it up. The internet is a cruel thing, many times it makes me feel that I lack originality or innovation. A list of green tea smoothies came up when I looked for them So I chose one and tried it. Not only it tasted good, it had its own health benefits. Want to try it? Come, I will share the recipe with you.

Ingredients

1 tea bag Green tea (yay!)

1 tablespoon Organic Honey

1 banana, mashed

1 and a half cup musk melon or honeydew melon

1 tablespoon almond meal/almond butter

1 cup almond milk

Recipe

Boil a cup of water, add the green tea bag to it and let it steep. Wait till it cools down.

In a blender, add mashed banana, roughly chopped musk melon or honeydew melon and one tablespoon of honey. Top it with almond meal or almond butter. Blend it well.

Add the steeped and cooled green tea to the blender and blend again.

Finally add the almond milk and pulse the blender lightly.

Pour in a tall glass, add a few chunks of honeydew melon or musk melon and a couple slices of banana and serve.

Health Benefits/Nutritional Value

Green Tea: Green tea is a rich source of antioxidants. It helps to detoxify our body, boosts metabolism and aids in digestion. The antioxidants also fight free radicles thus reduce the signs of ageing

Organic Honey: Organic honey is a healthy alternative to regular white sugar (contains 38.2% of fructose, 31.3% of glucose)

Banana: Banana is a very rich source of  natural potassium. It makes a great pre-workout food as it is packed with energy and helps to sustain the blood sugar level during the workout, also prevents muscle cramps or sore muscles during a workout.

Almonds: It is a rich source of monounsaturated fatty acids, protein, Folate (Vitamin B9) Choline, Vitamin E, Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphorous and Potassium. Almonds boost memory and provide instant energy.

Notes/Remarks

You can cold steep the green tea in advance. Just dip the tea bag in cold water and leave it as it is, for 30 to 60 minutes. The water would have absorbed all the qualities of green tea, without releasing tannin in the water.

You can replace the almond milk with soy milk if you want to.

I know it’s named a green tea smoothie, so changing the basic, the green tea will question the existence of this smoothie. But since we are cool people looking for a change in our daily lives, I give you the option to replace the main hero; green tea from the recipe. You can replace it with any other tea you like.

So next time when you are bored of your regular cup of green tea and want to add a twist to it, that too in a healthy way, give this smoothie a try, I am sure you will love it.
