You often face an embarrassing problem of bad smell from your hair. No matter how many times you wash it, it always hits back after a few days. Well, this problem is generally referred to as smelly hair syndrome. It is important to know that it not at all related to poor hygiene and age. People who have oily hair are more prone to this syndrome.

This is so because oily hair attracts a lot of environmental pollutants and strong smells. Other factors contributing to smelly are stress, hormonal imbalance and fungal infections on the scalp. Here is an extensive list of home remedies, which can help you in getting rid of this embarrassing syndrome. Take a look!

  1. Tea Tree Oil

Owing to its anti-microbial properties, tea tree oil helps in curing the problem of stinky hair. It is effective in treating condition raised due to scalp infections. Therefore, it can cure scalp acne and dandruff as well.

To use it, just dilute a few drops of tea tree oil in some water. Apply it thoroughly on your scalp and then, allow it to stay for about half an hour. Later shampoo your hair.  Try another remedy by adding a few drops of tea tree oil in your shampoo. Use this solution once a week. A regular treatment will surely help you get rid of smelly scalp and hair.

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a great natural clarifier for hair as it removes the buildup of pollutants, which contribute to smelly hair. Apple cider vinegar also helps in restoring the pH balance, boosting shine and preventing frizz.

All you need to do is mix half cup of organic apple cider vinegar in two cups of distilled water. To this solution, add a few drops of any essential oil, such as lavender and rose. Pour this solution in a spray bottle and then, spray on to your hair. After 15 minutes, rinse off your hair with cold water.

You can also prepare another solution by adding half tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to one cup of water. Apply it on your hair and then, rinse off after a minute.

  1. Tomato Juice

Tomato juice is known to keep foul smell at bay and therefore, is a great remedy for smelly hair. The acids present in tomatoes help in balancing the pH level in your tresses.

Just massage your scalp with fresh tomato juice. Allow it to stay for about 15 minutes and then, wash off well. Follow this remedy at least two times in a week. Do not use it frequently as it may lighten your natural hair color.

  1. Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is another great option for getting rid of smelly hair. It will not only remove the bad odor but also make your scalp clean. It can further boost smoothness, shine and fight dandruff and scalp infections.

Just dilute juice of two lemons in one cup of water. Once you are done with shampooing your hair, apply this solution on your scalp and tresses. Massage well and then, let it stay for a few minutes. Later, rinse it off thoroughly. Repeat it once in a week.

If your scalp is prone to fungal infections, try this concoction. Mix together juice of one lemon and one cup of curd. Apply it on your hair and then allow it to stay for half an hour. Do it once in a week.

  1. Neem Oil

Neem is an age-old remedy for almost all hair and scalp infections. This is due to the presence of anti-bacterial properties in it.

To use it, just pour in a few drops of neem oil (like tea tree oil) in your shampoo bottle. Use it once a week for getting rid f infections and smell.

Besides, you can also massage your scalp and tresses with a few drops of neem oil. Leave it overnight and then, wash off the next morning.
