Natural Remedies For Children’s Common Ailments

As parents of young children, you always have to be prepared to deal with any ailment that suddenly swoops in. It may be the common cold, allergic reactions, tooth ache, ear aches, wounds; the list can go on and on. But sick days are a part of childhood and all you can do is help ease your kids through them. At that age, the immune system of the body is still developing and is relatively weak, so even the smallest amount of germs can trigger some sort of a reaction in the body. As they grow older, their immune system learns to fight off these diseases and problems. But in the early stages, parents often worry about their kid’s health.

Instead, you can use some of the immune boosting foods that specifically cater to helping treat certain ailments. Here are some simple home remedies for the most basic children’s health issues.

  1. Honey For A Cold

The cold is one of the most common problems plaguing children at a young age. Characterised by a runny nose, sore throat, fever, sneezing, itchy eyes, body ache and fatigue, the common cold can drain all the energy out of little kids. 1. Cinnamon For Bed Wetting

When younger, bedwetting is a common problem with children. The small size of a bladder, excessive urine production and lack of control can often lead to them urinating in their bed while asleep at night. It is a very natural thing and most kids go through it for a large part of their infancy. To treat this, cinnamon is a tried and tested remedy. The consumption of this spice helps keep the body warm thus preventing bed wetting. You can ask your kids to chew or suck on a cinnamon stick or make a paste by mixing cinnamon powder with honey.

  1. Fennel For Stomach Ache

Constipation, indigestion, gas build up, acid reflux, over eating, food poisoning, stomach flu etc are common terms in parents dictionaries. And these issues often lead to stomach ache for kids. Fennel seeds are an easy and convenient way to treat stomach pains at home. Crush fennel seeds and add it to a glass of warm water. Strain the water, add a dollop of honey and ask your kids to drink the mixture. Another alternative is to roast some fennel seeds and give your kids half a spoonful of these to chew on after meals to treat stomach aches.

  1. Olive Oil For Earache

Earaches often come and go in the form of sharp shooting pain deep in the ear canal and can be quite an uncomfortable experience. Children undergo earaches quite often due to infections or fluid build up in the ear. Colds, nasal blockages and increase in air pressure such as during flights or at high altitudes too can cause such a pain. An effective solution for this is to warm up some olive oil and add 3 to 4 drops of the lukewarm oil into your child’s ear canal. This causes the wax to soften and helps remove the infection. You can then clean the ear canal using a cotton swab. Find the olive oil you need here.
