The essentials of proteins

Balance is the key to life. One cannot obtain all the required nutrients from just one type of food material. By selecting the right amount and type of food one can achieve the required strength and vitality. Proteins are the official building blocks of life, so, they are very essential to our muscle recovery and our daily functioning. Major sources of protein can be Pulses, Meat (including chicken and eggs), soybean and other milk products. People generally dealing with high amounts of physical work require more amounts of protein. Other sources like whey proteins can be very useful in this scenario. In addition to whey proteins, taking amino acids can also be beneficial. Although one should also note that protein alone is not sufficient. But one should not consume excess amount of it also. Consuming high amounts of protein can also lead to weight gain. So, remember lean muscle is not just about proteins only.

-The energy from carbohydrates

Carbohydrates provide the energy that the body requires to perform daily tasks. Major sources of carbohydrates are cereal, potato, flour and many others. These foods provide the sugar which the digestive derives from them and use it to provide energy for cells, tissues or muscles. But if an individual restricts themselves to only a diet of carbohydrates then it would not serve him/her well. Even if one consumes healthy carbs but in large quantity then that would have an adverse effect on the health. High amounts of carbs in the body results high amounts of sugar in the body. And we are aware that a high level of sugar in the body is known as diabetes. Yes, diabetes can also be caused by eating healthy carbs. So, eat your carbs, but eat them right.

-The necessary fats

Some amount of fats is essential for the body to function properly. Walnuts, olive oil, peanut butter can be major sources of healthy fat. But even if one consumes high amount of healthy fat that too will be dangerous. An individual needs to eat just right amount of fat as per the body requires. Eating too much of it will make one obese, so, take care and eat in balance.

So, what should be the right balance between these three? The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends eating within the following ranges:

  • Carbohydrates: 45-65% of calories
  • Fat: 20-35% of calories
  • Protein: 10-35% of calories

Along with these three nutrients daily intake of vitamins, minerals and water should also be administered. The moment an individual strikes balance between all these nutrients will be the moment when an individual finds himself/herself vitalized and full of energy.Click here to browse more varieties that JBN has in store for you.
