Ear aches as and when appear are quite uncomfortable. They happen mostly due to infection or buildup of fluid in the middle ear. Several other reasons leading to ear pain include common cold, ear wax, blockage in nasal passage, any physical damage inside the ear and increase in air pressure. Children are more likely to suffer from ear aches as compared to adults.
If an ear ache is not treated on time, it can lead to severe infections and even deafness. There are several natural remedies that can help in curing this pain. We have listed down a few of them for you.
- Peppermint
Peppermint herb can be used in both its forms, be it leaves or oil. It is often associated with treating several types of aches, one of them being ear ache.
To use it, just extract the juice of some few peppermint leaves. Now pour in a few drops of this juice in your ear with the help of a dropper.
Alternately, take a cotton ball and dip t in some peppermint oil. Now apply it around the opening of the ear. Make sure that the oil does not penetrate inside your ear. You can mix some olive oil in this peppermint oil to dilute it before applying.
- Olive Oil
Since olive oil acts like a lubricant, it helps in getting rid of an ear infection. Besides, olive oil helps in providing quick relief from an ear ache too. It basically acts on the buzzing sensations happening inside the ear.
Just heat the oil to a lukewarm temperature and then, pour in a few drops into the ear canal. Alternately, you can dip a cotton bud into the oil and then place it inside the ear. You can also use mustard oil in place of olive oil.
- Onion
Onion is an ingredient, which is always available in any kitchen. It possesses antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties, which help in treating several types of infections, including ear as well.
Grate half an onion and extract its juice. Heat it on a low flame and then, pour in a few drops of this juice in the affected ear.
You can also crush an onion and then, wrap it in a piece of cloth. Now place this cloth over your ear for about 10 minutes. Do it a couple of times in a day.
- Garlic
Possessing analgesic and antibiotic properties, garlic works as a great healer, even for ear aches and infections.
Just take one teaspoon of minced garlic and heat it with two tablespoons of sesame oil. Once it cools down, strain the liquid. Now pour in a few drops of this garlic-infused oil in your ear.
You can try another remedy by extracting the juice of garlic cloves. Pour around three drops of this juice in your ear to get some relief from the pain.
- Ginger
Ginger is known to be a universal healer as it possesses anti-inflammatory properties. This further helps in treating ear infections. Ginger also works as a natural pain killer as well.
Just grate some fresh ginger and extract its juice. Pour a few drops of this juice in your ear directly. This will reduce both pain and inflammation. Try another remedy by mixing one teaspoon of fresh grated ginger root and two tablespoons of olive oil together. After 10 minutes, put a few drops of this concoction in your affected ear.
- Neem
Neem or Indian lilac is a storehouse of anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that help in fighting several types of infections. Besides, its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties reduce pain as well.
Just crush a few neem leaves to extract their juice. Now, pour in a few drops of this juice in your aching ear. Alternately, dip a cotton ball in neem oil and then, place it in your ear. Let it stay for a few minutes and then remove it.
