If your last night begun with, “Tonight I will fish like a drink” and ended with “I swear to beer, I did not drink God” at a party and now when the party is over, something is badly banging in your head and you cannot find that thing which is constantly making a ringing noise, or your are asking your roommates to lower down their voice, even when they swear that they are whispering, you probably are hungover.
- Honey And Lemon
Imagine yourself hungover and still someone says, ‘How sweet!’ yes that’s what this remedy will do to you. Honey is full of fructose and potassium both of which help you to metabolize the alcohol in your body. Lemon, being acidic in nature, modifies the pH level and regulates the blood sugar level in your body. Both of them together, when mixed in warm water are the superheroes that will help your body recover fast and get back to normal life.
- Ginger
Ginger has been used to treat vomiting, nausea, gas etc for centuries, which are a few aftermaths of drinking. You can use ginger in multiple forms to relieve any of these hangover problems. You can chew on a couple pieces of freshly cut ginger roots throughout the day, or you can make yourself ginger tea. Grate and add a tablespoon of ginger in a cup of boiling water, cover it and let it steep for 10 minutes. Add a tablespoon of honey and half a lemon’s juice. Drink this tea throughout the day.
- Juices
Keeping the body hydrated is very important to prevent or treat a hangover. While it is best to drink natural juices, remember to drink juices that are rich in electrolytes. While many suggest that sports drinks are a rich source of electrolytes, the best, easiest and most natural way to consume an electrolyte-rich drink is coconut water.
- Peppermint
Peppermint tea is an age old remedy used by pregnant ladies across the globe to cure their morning sickness as it detoxifies the body. Peppermint is well known to fight problems like a headache, nausea, gas, bloating, vomiting which usually are a part of a hangover. Peppermint can be used in multiple forms like you can chew on a few peppermint leaves or drink some peppermint tea, for which you have to add a tablespoon of peppermint leaves to boiling water, cover the vessel and let it steep for 10 minutes. Strain the tea add a tablespoon of honey and drink it while it is still warm. You can also add a few drops of peppermint oil in hot water and bathe in it. You will feel better soon.
- Coconut
If you thought that only coconut water is helpful to relieve you of a hangover, you were wrong. Coconut also is a great home remedy to cure a hangover. Coconut is another natural product which contains a large amount of potassium and helps to cure the body ache. While you can nibble on fresh coconut pieces, if you are worried that trying to crack open the coconut, will increase the banging in your head, you can eat coconut in desiccated form. Just eat a couple of tablespoons of desiccated coconut at a time and it will help to restore the electrolytes in your body.
- Oil Pulling
Oil pulling detoxifies the body and thus is another home remedy for a hangover. All you have to do is swish a tablespoon of coconut oil around your mouth and through your teeth. Do this for 15-20 minutes. Do not swallow this oil, spit it out. Do this as first thing in the morning, even before brushing your teeth.
A friend once suggested that the best way to a hangover is to be a teetotaller (Yeah! Like that is easy!) but if you can’t be a teetotaller here are few things you should keep in mind while drinking, keep your body hydrated (not with alcohol, alcohol does the opposite, i.e. it dehydrates the body) drink a lot of water or mix water in your alcohol, don’t mix up alcohols and eat something along with your drink specially something sugary.
