“Why to fart and waste when you can burp and taste” I heard this in a movie, and my first reaction was “Eww gross”. Burping is basically passing the excessive gas formed in your stomach. These gases are formed due to two reasons, consuming excessive air while eating or due to indigestion of food in your intestines. It is also believed that your digestive system produces gases when the temperate of food you consume does not match the temperature inside your body. Often, burping is accompanied by a sound and odor. Though, it is well known that burping is a normal body function as natural as sneezing, but still burping in public, is very embarrassing and annoying. If you burp once in a while, it is completely fine, but if you have a problem of burping every now and then, this is a bodily dysfunction and you should treat it, sooner the better. Here are a few natural home remedies to treat your burping problem.

  1. Probiotic Food

Probiotic food means live bacteria and yeasts that are good for your digestive and overall health. Usually, bacteria are considered bad for health, the first thing we think of when we say bacteria is disease-causing germs, but it is not true. There are of two types of bacteria that live in our body: the good bacteria and the bad bacteria. The bad bacteria cause diseases and other dysfunctions while the good bacteria help us to stay healthy. Probiotic food is one rich source of good bacteria. Consuming these regularly, help our digestive system to function properly and keep us fit and healthy. The best way to consume probiotic food is to include curd, yogurt or buttermilk in your diet. In case you are lactose intolerant or do not like the taste of curd, yogurt or buttermilk, you can always go for other options like probiotic capsules.

  1. Fennel Seeds

Fennel seeds are one of the oldest known remedies for burping. Did you know that the reason you are offered fennel seeds after a meal is not only because they act as mouth fresheners, but also because they help to digest your food? Yes, fennel seeds aid your digestive system and boost your metabolism. These sweet and fragrant seeds are really great to treat all your digestive problems. Now that’s what I call the perfect example of ‘kill two birds with one stone.’ So now you have another reason to munch on fennel seeds after a meal.

  1. Asafoetida

Asafoetida is one of the favourite ingredients of Indian households. Indian kitchen is incomplete without asafoetida or heeng as we more commonly know it. We use it in most of our vegetable and lentil preparations. Heeng is the best-known home remedy for burping and other gas troubles. This is because it improves digestion and reduces acidity and the gases produced due to indigestion or acidity. Mothers across the globe add asafoetida to their baby’s food to aid their digestion. You can either add heeng while cooking or try these tasty digestive heeng pills or powder.

  1. 4. Ginger

When it comes to anything related to the respiratory or digestive system, ginger is my favorite go-to. Ginger is one of the most commonly used roots in our daily lives. Ginger reduces abdominal pain, gases, bloating and burping, all thanks to its carminative properties that relax the gastrointestinal muscles. Just take one tablespoon of fresh or dried ginger in one cup of boiling hot water. Cover it and let it steep for 10 minutes. Add one tablespoon of honey and a few drops of lemon juice if you want to. Drink this tea 2-3 times and day to relieve gas, bloating and burping.

  1. Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea is another great herbal way to treat gastrointestinal problems. Regularly drinking chamomile tea helps to soothe the stomach and release it through the system instead of burping. Boil a cup of hot water and dip a chamomile tea bag in it. Let it steep for 10 minutes. Remove the tea bag and enjoy your cup of good health.

Instead of burping in public and feeling embarrassed, try one of these home remedies to treat your burping problems.
