Different types of wax:

Beeswax

Beeswax tends to be the oldest type of substance used to make organic candles. They are the most popular type and are extremely cheap.  They are easy to use and mouldable and will not droop. Paraffin

This is the by product of the crude oil refining process. They tend to have various melting points depending on the type. Also they used to create a variety of different products. They tend to produce a lot of soot though. But there are varieties of paraffin which do not do that. They are used to make candles and they last for a long time as well. The scented candles made from paraffin are regarded as a very good option for your houses. 

Soy wax

Soy wax is made from Hydrogenated soybean oil. It is a completely biodegradable and renewable resource. It doesn’t release any kind of toxins when burned and it is water soluble so you can clean it up easily from any surface. It is also totally non toxic when lit. This wax tends to be very soft so it is easy to mould custom made candles from it.

Wicks

A wick is the most important part of the candle. It is generally made from cotton and can also contain zinc or lead. Although it is not supposed to be in a candle it is still widely used. To make them sturdier sometimes paraffin and palm wax is also used on them.

How are they scented?

Candles can be scented through a variety of ways. Fragrant synthetic oils and petrochemical derived oils are used to scent candles as well. Go for candles which are organically scented. Pure essential oil based candles is the least harmful to the environment.   It is also the least harmful when burning.

Few other factors to look out for

Go for totally organic candles. They can cost a bit moiré but they are totally worth it as they produce no harm to the environment and the people around it. Organic wicks and hemp is another factor. Candles scented with essential oils tend to be very smooth and causes no inhalation problems. You need to understand the various breakdowns of the candles to make sure that you are buying the best candles possible. Candles can help in the accentuation of your room but you need to know where you can damage your home. If you are using candles in your house make sure that there are no infants present. Use a diffuser if you want and leave the candles aside. Infants do not like the smoke and it can cause respiratory problems to them.

 

Go for various soft smelling scents if you are a first time candle user. Many people do not like harsh smelling candles since they tend to be very strong on the nose. You will eventually grow into them but as a first time try to use only light candle scents like jasmine and lavender. Decorative candles are one of the best ways to spice up the atmosphere for your room. Once you use it you will know just how great these are and why people tend to use them so much.
