Shifting into a new home is often a daunting task to face. But for some, redecorating the new house into a place where you can relax, unwind and call your own is the Everest to climb, which is why so many houses end up looking like forlorn hospital waiting rooms while their owners hunt around for items that remind them of their place of origin. What most people don’t realize is that with just a few tips and tricks, a simple white four walled room can turn into a cozy haven that is personalized just for you.

Home décor is often the most underrated talents to have. With just a few changes here and there, a cold and strange room can transform into a room that’s looked like you’ve been living there forever. However, it takes a trained eye to spot what aspects of the house can be changed and manipulated into the exact right way that you personally want. The following are some easy and inexpensive ways to truly make your house your home.

Home Décor Hacks:

  • Personalize your utensils:
Utensils can range from stationary to kitchen tools. While most people use them solely for the tasks that they were made for, what most people don’t realize is that displaying them correctly and in the right fashion is a great way to show that there is a genuine working person living in the house. Stack your sharpened pencils into one simple glass vase, or dip the handles of all your kitchen utensils like spoons, forks, spatulas and ladles into some bright colored fluorescent or pastel waterproof paint, and watch them bring your drawing room or kitchen alive.
  • Print out Instagram pictures as wall art:
It’s now time that you put all the time and effort you put into curating the best looking photos and selfies on Instagram. Print out all your liked photos by first using an external software to download all liked images and print them out in either square inch dimensions – or larger, depending on your wall size and length – and stick them onto the wall as one big collage, using just Cellotape or blue tack. Not only does it make the room look more colorful, but also represents your identity and personality on the wall.
  • Invest in a rug:
Need to cover up a nasty stain or unlaminated floors? A rug or a carpet is your best bet to divert attention from all the less than stellar corners of your house. Invest in a great soft shag carpet or a funky chevron rug that not only gives the room some personality, but also manages to cover up all the less than pleasant eyesores of the house floor.

  • Get out the plants:
Plants are a great hack to - literally – bring some life into the hous Set some big green potted plants against a stark white wall and the white green color combination is sure to bring in an air of elegance and sophistication to the room. You can even switch the potted plants seasonally by potting the already potted plants into larger pots, so that the task of switching the plants is an easy and not at all messy task.
  • Put candles in corners:
Candles are man’s greatest investment especially when it comes to changing the entire room’s décor by 180 degrees. Candles have the magical ability to convert a drab looking room, into a purposefully minimalist and elegant and sometimes even romantic comfort zone that can work to your advantage, depending on the type of candles you invest in. Having large candles in vases adds to a beautifully comforting room, while having long dark colored candles standing against the corners of the room brings in an aspect of sophistication into the house. Buy some brilliant scented candles to go with them, and you’ll be golden until they run out.

With these simple investments that barely go over Rs. 5000, you can convert a drab looking house into a fabulous comfortable home that you can proudly call your own.
