Common cold affects most of us quite frequently and since it is commonest of all ailments, it is called common cold. Nasal passage gets blocked due to cold and sneezing or sore throat may or may not follow common cold. A person having cold may start coughing due to infection getting developed in the lungs.


Runny nose, sneezing, headache, throat irritation, sore throat.


Ginger – Extract 1 teaspoon of ginger juice & mix with small amount of honey to be taken 2 -3 times a day.


Turmeric – Turmeric is quite effective in curing throat irritation & sore throat. Fresh turmeric powder added in milk & boiled makes a soothing drink during bedtime. You can also add roasted ajwain (carom seeds) to this milk for added benefit.

Tulsi (Basil) – A decoction of tulsi leaves mixed with honey & ginger is an effective cure for cold & cough.

Garlic – Garlic is an immunity booster. Crushed garlic can be added to hot soups, stews & other hot beverages to fight cold & cough.

Pepper – Boiled water with few peppers in it work wonders for sore throat.

Vitamin C fruits – Vitamin C fruits develops body’s resistance to virus & allergies in the air. Consume vitamin C rich fruits such as Oranges, Sweet limes, Strawberries etc during the illness to treat cough & cold.


Avoid cold food & beverages.

Deep fried & greasy foods will make cold & cough severe.

Avoid chocolates, biscuits & indian sweets during cold & cough.
