Dental care is as important as taking care of your health and is not just limited to brushing, which is a part of dental care. Dental care requires time and patience. The only way you can get healthy teeth and gums is by taking care of them on a daily basis. Your teeth cannot be regenerated by your body once they fall off. So, it is important to take care of them.

Here are some tips to ensure that your teeth and gums stay healthy:

  • Brushing: Brushing your teeth is very important as apart from giving you white teeth and a fresher breath; brushing has a number of other benefits too. It reduces the chance of developing infections. Poor gums are linked to some health problems such as diabetes and osteoporosis. Selecting the right toothpaste is also an important aspect of brushing. Most of toothpaste available in the market are not free from chemicals and can do more harm than good to your teeth. You should buy organic toothpaste as they are free from chemicals and are safe for your teeth.

  • Lemon oil: Lemon oil has antiseptic properties and will reduce the bacterial growth in your mouth. Also, it refreshes your mouth by acting as a mouthwash. Lemon oil also helps in preventing tooth decay. But, using lemon oil in excess can also harm your teeth because of its acidic nature.

  • Green tea: Green tea is effective on your teeth and gums too. It prevents tooth cavities b lowering the acidity of saliva and reducing dental plaque. Green tea possesses anti-inflammatory properties which help control periodontal gum disease. Green tea also slows the progression of oral cancer. Green tea outperforms mint and chewing gum in giving you better breath.

  • Eucalyptus oil: Eucalyptus oil is obtained from leaves of eucalyptus tree and is a germicide that fights plaque buildup and prevents tooth cavities. Being anti-inflammatory in nature, it also provides relief from swollen gums.

  • Clove oil: Clove oil is the most effective natural remedy for tooth ache and helps fight germs and bad breath.

  • Make sure that you are taking citrus fruits in your daily diet as deficiency of vitamin C gives rise to various dental problems including plaque.
  • Eat a lot of fruits and veggies because these promote saliva production and help your body fight bacteria in your mouth. Drinking water is another great way to produce saliva and clear bacteria from your mouth. Foods that have high water content also help slow the process of decay by diluting the sugar in the foods you consume.
  • Flossing is another essential part of maintaining oral hygiene. Daily flossing is as important as brushing your teeth daily. To receive maximum benefits from flossing, you should use this technique- firstly, start with about 18 inches of floss, and wind most of the floss around a finger, leaving two inches of floss to work with. Then, hold the floss tightly between your thumb and index finger and move it gently up and down between your teeth a few times. After this, curve the floss around the base of each tooth. Make sure you are not forcing your floss as this maybruise the delicate gum tissuewhich can have serious consequences.
