Can we really have the cake and eat it too? Can nutritious food really be tasty? If it can, won’t that be convenient. And it certainly is convenient, because such foods really do exist. Who says nutritious food cannot taste good? Here are some foods which might change one’s mind on the topic.

  • Apples: They are a rich source of antioxidants. Antioxidants help in fighting free radicals which are responsible for change in the body, which is usually undesirable, for instance, the aging process or diseases.
  • Sweet potatoes: They are low in calories but still have a rich flavour. They do not contain fat or cholesterol. They are very nutritious, even more so If their skins are left on. They are an important source of potassium and vitamin A.
  • Broccoli: It has fibre, potassium, calcium and compounds known as phytonutrients which help in reducing the risk of getting any heart diseases, cancers and diabetes. It is also a source of vitamin C and antioxidants. Another compound, sulforaphane is found in broccoli which helps in fighting osteoarthritis.
  • Peanuts: They have a lot of protein, which helps build muscle and stamina and repair muscle as well. Also, eating peanuts with their red skins on will ensure the supply of antioxidants. Consumption of peanuts will decrease health risks of getting diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and metabolic syndrome.

  • Oily fish: Salmon, mackerel, trout, sardines, herring, and anchovies are instances of oily fish. Oily fish are very beneficial to health for they contain omega-3 fatty acids which enhance the cardiovascular as well as the nervous system. Moreover, oily fish contain vitamins A and D and they are especially useful in counteracting arthritis.

  • Mushrooms: They are rich in the mineral called selenium which specialises in fighting cancer. Not only this, but they are also a rich source of vitamin D and copper and potassium. They contain the essential nutrients required for maintaining normal heart rate, nerve function and production of red blood cells.
  • Pistachios: They are delicious and healthy. They supply us with antioxidants, vitamins like B6, E and thiamine, fibre, magnesium, and potassium. They can be consumed as a mix with breakfast cereals or dried fruits. They help reduce any risks of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

  • Strawberries: They are a very important source of vitamin C. They boost digestion and they help keep gums and teeth healthy. In addition to this, they contain flavonoids which enhance mental function and also help fighting breast and prostate cancer.
