ECZEMA

Eczema also known as (atopic dermatitis) is a form of chronic inflammation of the skin. It is a condition of allergic reaction to certain allergens. Causes being hereditary factors, irregular blood circulation, climate, deficiency of vitamin B6, stress and exposure to the skin.

SYMPTOMS

Itchy rashes, dryness, flaking, cracking, and also bleeding in some cases.

REMEDIES

Margosa(Neem)- Take three tablespoon of crushed Margosa (neem) leaves in a bowl. Add one tablespoon of   turmeric (haldi) powder. Mix well. Apply this mixture twice a day on the affected area.

Regular application of Neem oil is helpful for eczema patients.

Take a handful of Neem leaves and boil it in four cups of water for 15 minutes. Wash the affected area with this water. It will reduce itching and redness. Repeat this three to four times a day.

Licorice- Mix one teaspoon of licorice root powder with few drops of lukewarm sesame oil.  Apply this paste on the affected area. Wrap it up with a bandage or a soft cloth. Keep it on for three to four hours before washing. Repeat this remedy twice a day.

AloeVera gel- AloeVera is a cooling herb. Apply the gel and leave it on for 30 minutes. Repeat this twice a day.

Omega fatty Acids- Supplements of Omega 3 fatty acids will help to relive dry skin and reduce inflammation. Or eat foods rich in Omega fatty acids.

Chamomile- Chamomile essential oils can be applied directly to the skin to sooth eczema. (Do a patch test to ensure sensitivity on your skin). Or add few drops in bucket filled with warm water for a warm bath.

Coconut oil- Pure coconut oil is an effective method to moisturize the skin and keep it cool.

Lavender oil- Lavender oil is a rich aromatic multipurpose oil. Its antiviral, anti-inflammatory properties are very good in treating eczema and dry skin.

Add two drops of lavender oil in warm water bath. This soothes the muscles and increases blood circulation.

Mix lavender oil with vegetable oil or olive oil for the skin applications. Avoid using concentrated lavender oil in case of eczema. Always mix it with a carrier oil.

Shea butter- Shea butter in its pure form is very good for dry/eczema affected skin. Shea butter has essential oils which moisturize the skin and prevent it from drying.

Turmeric-Turmeric is an ancient medicine to treat the skin ailments. Turmeric has anti inflammatory properties to treat skin diseases. Mix one tablespoon of pure haldi (turmeric) in cream or yogurt. Apply it 20 minutes before shower.

Taking turmeric internally also helps in purifying the blood. Take a glass of warm milk, add one teaspoon of haldi (turmeric), and add sugar/honey to taste (optional) Drink this once/twice a day.

PREVENTION

“Go organic”. People who suffer from Eczema has very sensitive skin as their skin easily reacts to chemical based products. Switching to herbal products is a good option for them.

Substitute cow’s milk with goat’s milk, soymilk, hazelnut, oats, or almond milk.

People who are prone to eczema should always protect their skin from sunrays. Always use sunscreen before stepping out in the sun.

Avoid spicy or oily food. Avoid canned food, tea and coffee.

Avoid harsh chemical based soaps, shampoos, powders, detergents and perfumes.

Wear comfortable cotton clothing, avoid tight synthetic fabrics, use soft towels and avoid rubbing the skin after shower.

Keep your skin moisturized with organic moisturizers.
