FLAX SEED BAR

Flax seed is a great source of soluble fiber. Flax seed is gluten free and has a pleasant nutty flavor. It is rich in omega-3 fatty acid. It can help lower cholesterol level. Nuts are high in minerals, including calcium, iron, magnesium and zinc. Nuts are rich in antioxidants which enhances the immune system, protects cell membranes and helps make red blood cells. These yummy bites are a healthy way to satisfy your snacking needs.

INGREDIENTS

  • Flax seed powder( coarsely ground)   -   ½ cup
  • Walnut powder   (coarsely ground)      - ½ cup
  • Almond powder  (coarsely ground)      - ½ cup
  • Cashew nuts        (coarsely ground)     - ½ cup
  • Green cardamom (crushed)                  -1 tsp
  • Cinnamon  powder(optional)                 - a pinch
  • Sugar                                                    -1 cup
  • Water                                                     -1 cup    

METHOD

Dry roast the flax seed powder. When the flax seed powder is just hot; add coarsely ground walnut, almond and cashew nut powder. Roast it for 2 to 3 minutes till it gets hot. Make sure not to overdo the roasting as the nuts will leave oil. Remove from the heat. Add cardamom and cinnamon (optional) powder. Transfer this mixture to a bowl. 

To make the sugar syrup, add the sugar and water in a pan. Boil the syrup till the sugar has melted completely. Lower the heat and let it boil for 1 – 2 mins extra. Check the consistency of the syrup with a spoon. It should be sticky to touch. Add the nut mixture and fold it well. Transfer it on a greased plate. Give the desired shape with a knife. Let the mixture cool down in room temperature before you serve it or store it.

TIPS

  • Sugar syrup can be substituted with Jaggery syrup.
  • Nuts are best digested in powdered form.
