Psoriasis is a long lasting autoimmune disease which causes patches to appear on the skin. These are mostly red, itchy and scaly. They may be small and localized or may have a complete body coverage. It is considered to be a genetic disease, which is triggered by environmental factors. The difficulties with psoriasis usually worsen in the winter season, where the harsh climatic conditions tend to steal the natural moisture of the body. These are the problems, but enough about them now! We will not talk about problems, we will only talk about the solution, after all I am pretty sure that if you are reading this article, chances are you are or someone near and dear to you is suffering from psoriasis, so you already know this irritating disease it. While there is no cure to psoriasis, you can reduce the irritation with various medications, which range from oral medicines to suppress the immune system or creams that would reduce the redness and itchiness. While there are abundant creams available in the market for this disease, I still like going organic, natural and homemade. This way, I know what I am applying on my body and whether it will improve or worsen the situation. So here I am, sharing a few homemade butters and salves to treat psoriasis.

  1. Scalp Psoriasis Oil Blend

Ingredients

1 cup olive oil

10-15 drops tea tree oil

1 shower cap

Method

Add one cup of olive oil in a double boiler and heat it up. Remember that the temperature should be lukewarm and not boiling hot.

Take the olive oil off the heat and add 10-15 drops of tee tree oil to the lukewarm olive oil and mix it well.

Pour the mixture in a glass bottle and store away from heat and light.

Take a handful this oil mixture and apply it your scalp. Gently massage your head with this oil mixture. Make sure that it is applied thoroughly on whole of your scalp, especially the affected spots.

Wear a shower cap or a plastic wrap on the head and leave it as it is for an hour and then remove the cap and wash your hair as you normally do.

  1. Healing Salve

Ingredients

2 cups coconut oil

2 cups olive oil

1 tablespoon almond oil

10-15 drops frankincense oil

8 tablespoon beeswax

Method

Put a glass bowl on a double boiler and add beeswax to it. Let it melt completely.

Add the coconut oil and let it melt and get incorporated in the beeswax.

Add the olive oil to the mixture and mix it well.

Take the glass bowl off the double boiler and let it cool a bit.

Add the frankincense oil in the mixture and mix it well.

Pour it in a glass jar and let is cool completely, until it solidifies. You can also put the container or the glass jar in the refrigerator to solidify it quickly.

  1. Herbal Body Butter

Ingredients

1 cup olive oil

1 cup coconut oil

10-15 drops of patchouli oil

10-15 drops of tea tree oil

1/4 cup organic honey

Method

In case it is very cold out side and the coconut oil has solidified, put it in a double boiler and let it melt slowly.

Add the olive oil to this melted coconut oil and mix it well, until it is completely incorporated.

Add the honey and mix well again.

Remove from the heat and let it cool a bit. Once it is at room temperature add the patchouli oil and the tea tree oil to this mixture and again mix it well. It is important to remove the oil mixture from heat before adding the essential oils because heat has adverse effects on the delicate essential oil.

Store in a desired glass container. Let it cool completely and let it solidify. Again, if you want to speed up the process, you can store this glass jar in your refrigerator.  Keep it away from direct sunlight or other intense lights and extreme weather conditions.

These were tree handmade and homemade body butter, salve, and oil blend to reduce the irritation related to psoriasis. I hope that the article was helpful and it relieves you at least a little bit.
