We often select our dresses as per our body shape and height. Well, it becomes all the more annoying when we have to select them to hide our patchy and dark skin. The dark skin around knees and elbows generally forces you to wear full sleeves, long skirts and jeans.

The skin around elbows and knees is slightly thicker and dry due to the absence of oil glands. Improper care can often lead to dry and patchy skin around these areas.  So, we bring to you a few home remedies, which will surely help you in lightening the skin color around your knees and elbows.

  1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is helpful in lightening the around knees and elbows. This is because coconut oil contains vitamin E, which lightens the skin color and keeps it hydrated. It further ensures proper repair of dark and damaged skin.

All you need to do is massage some coconut oil on your dark k knees and elbows after a shower. Do it at least for five minutes. You can repeat it couple of times in a day in case of severe dryness.

 Alternately, prepare a concoction by mixing one teaspoon of coconut oil and half teaspoon of lemon juice. Massage your elbows and knees with this solution and then allow it to dry. Then wipe off with a warm washcloth. Do this on a regular basis.

Try another concoction, which is basically a scrub. Mix coconut oil with walnut powder to form a smooth paste. Exfoliate the skin to get rid of the dark and patchy skin. Repeat this procedure at least thrice a week.

  1. Lemon

Lemon is known to possess bleaching and exfoliating properties. The presence of vitamin C ensures removal of dead skin cells and lightening of complexion. This way, it promotes regeneration of new skin tissues.

Just apply some lemon juice on your knees and elbows and gently massage for a few minutes. Let it stay for about 20 minutes. Afterwards, rinse off with warm water. Finish it with a moisturizer.

Prepare another concoction by extracting juice of one lemon. Mix one tablespoon of honey in it. Apply this liquid on the knees and elbows and then, leave t for about 15 minutes. Later wash off with normal water. Follow any of these remedies at least once in a day for about a month. Make sure that you do not expose yourself to sun after the application.

  1. Curd

Owing to the presence of lactic acid, curd helps in lightening the color of the skin. It further cleans and nourishes the skin.

To use it, add one spoon of plain curd to a spoon of white vinegar to get a smooth paste. Apply this paste on your knees and elbows and then leave it for some time. Once it dries up, wash with lukewarm water. A regular application will surely lighten the skin on your knees and elbows.

Alternatively, take two tablespoons of gram flour and mix it with one tablespoon of curd. Apply this concoction on the affected area. Allow it to dry and then, rinse of well. Apply it at least thrice a week.

  1. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is surely every girl’s beauty secret. It helps in lightening the skin color and keeping it hydrated. It not only tones the skin but also protects it from harmful UV rays. Scoop out the gel from an aloe vera leaf. Apply it on the affected area. Allow it to stay for about 20 minutes and then, rinse off well. Do it at least twice a week for a few months.
