As winters approach, cold feet becomes a common problem. It basically happens due to poor circulation of blood towards the feet. When there is less supply of blood to the feet, the oxygen supply too gets restricted, thus leading to cold feet. Once the circulation becomes proper, the coldness automatically vanishes. Also, problems like cold extremities, anemia, fatigue syndrome, restless legs syndrome, nerve damage, diabetes, hypothyroidism and hypothermia can also lead to cold feet. Nutritional deficiencies and excess alcohol smoking are also two important factors contributing to cold feet.

A medical intervention required if cold feet is accompanied by other symptoms like change in skin color, numbness, open sores and hardened skin.  Well, if there are numerous reasons behind cold feet, there are several natural ways to cure it as well. So let’s take a look at how can we deal with the problem of cold feet naturally.

  1. Massage with Warm Oil

Massaging is a sure shot remedy for treating cold feet. It not only provides warmth but improves blood circulation as well, lack of which is one of the primary reasons for cold feet. Apart from this a regular foot massage eases your fatigue and stress too. Use any oil like olive, sesame or coconut. Just heat it a little before applying. After applying the oil, gently massage your feet with your fingers for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, wear cotton socks to lock in the warmth. Repeat it daily before hitting the bed.

  1. Epsom Salt

Dipping your feet in an Epsom salt foot soak can also help in curing cold feet. The warm water provides warmth to your feet while the salt covers up for the deficiency of magnesium in the body. Magnesium deficiency is also one of the reasons behind having cold feet. Just add half cup of Epsom salt in a bucket of warm water. Stir well till it gets dissolved completely. Now dip your feet in this water till the water becomes cold. Do this foot soak therapy at least twice a week.

  1. Ginger

Ginger possesses anti-inflammatory and healing properties. Therefore it keeps several infections at bay. It provides warmth to the feet and can prevent it from cold extremities. Owing to the presence of compounds, such as gingerols and zingerone, ginger keeps the feet warm. It is also helpful in reducing the risk of blood clots.

Prepare ginger tea by boiling some ginger in one cup of water. Strain the liquid and add a spoon of honey to it. Consume this tea at least two times in a day.

Alternately, boil water in a big pot with ginger slices in it. Once the liquid cools down a bit, strain it into a tub. Dip your feet in this warm water for 15 minutes. Do this regularly for promising results. Taking ginger supplements can also help.

All you need to do is replace your normal cups of tea with green tea.

You can also make a green tea foot soak. Just dip a few green tea bags in boiling water. Take out the bags after a few minutes and let the water cool down a bit. Dip your feet in this foot soak for about 15 minutes. Do it at least twice in a day.
