Flaky and dry skin is a sign of lack of sufficient moisture in the body which tends to make the skin feel and look extremely parched and stretched out. While some people naturally suffer from dry skin, others also face it during the winter season which can seep out all the moisture from the skin. Other factors that can lead to dry skin also include ageing, lack of sufficient nutrition, vitamin deficiencies or a genetic disorder.   1. Honey

Honey is known to be one of the most natural moisturisers and can effectively treat the problem of dry skin. It is also loaded with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties which treat the symptoms developed due to parched skin. Honey helps to lock in the moisture and make your skin soft, smooth and silky. It also contains essential vitamins and minerals that improve the overall health of the skin.

  1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is full of natural saturated fats which seep into the skin and act as an intense moisturising therapy. The fatty acids in the oil also create a protective layer that prevents the skin from drying out due to the cold, sun exposure or pollutants.

To reap maximum benefits of coconut oil, apply it generously all over your body before going to bed. If you warm it up before application it also makes it easier for it to penetrate into the skin.   1. Oatmeal

Oatmeal when rubbed on the body helps to remove the dead and dry skin and moisturise it. The protein content in the oats creates a protective layer on the skin and keeps the water in the skin and prevents water loss due to sun exposure. This increases the moisture content and the anti-inflammatory properties also treat and heal the damaged and cracked skin.

You can use three to four spoonfuls of heavy cream to a bowl of warmed oats and rub it all over your body as a scrub. You can even make a paste by mixing it with mashed bananas and warm milk. Alternatively you can add a bowl of oats to your bath water and soak in it for 15 to 20 minutes.

  1. Almond Oil

Almond oil is full of vitamin E and can act as an excellent hydration therapy for dry skin. It is a wonderful emollient and lubricant for flaky skin. The antioxidant properties are good for skin as well as overall health. The non greasy texture of almond oil helps it to get easily absorbed into the skin and nourishes it thoroughly.

You can use almond oil by mixing it with warm milk and applying it as a natural body moisturising pack. Alternatively you can also rub it all over your body about 30 to 40 minutes before a bath and then soak in warm water for a couple of minutes for it to be efficiently absorbed into the skin.
