The skin made up of three layers covers everything inside the body. Epidermis is the outermost layer of the skin which protects the body. The skin also helps the body to sense touch and helps to keep the body at the right temperature. A healthy skin represents a healthy body. The skin therefore needs to be taken care of. It is essential to maintain the skin healthy and glowing always. The need for a healthy skin has led many people to make use of a wide range of skin care products that contain chemicals. These chemicals may be useful at first but later may lead to several skin problems and disorders and even skin cancer. The best way to get a healthy skin is the natural way.

Natural ways to get a healthy skin

  1. Drink plenty of water: When the body is hydrated it reflects in the skin making it look healthier and glowing. A dehydrated body leads to dull, flaky and loose skin. Thus, it is essential to drink lots of water, at least 8 glasses everyday to ensure that the skin is hydrated and looks healthy.
  2. Protect the skin from sun: The sun rays contain ultraviolet radiations which are the main cause of aging, wrinkles and other skin disorders. It is therefore necessary to protect the skin from the harmful sun rays so that the skin looks healthy. One of the best ways to protect the skin from the sun is to use a sunscreen.
  3. Protect the skin from dryness: Most of us do not know that the epidermis is about 30% water and this water is bound in the lipids to ensure that it does not evaporate and does not let the skin get dry. The use of moisturizers can further improve the skin's ability to bind water. Natural moisturizing agents like citrate, minerals, urea and amino acids can also be used to ensure that the skin remains hydrated and prevents it from getting dry too quickly.
  4. Eat foods that are rich in antioxidants: Antioxidants prevent the skin from aging and also from inflammation which is one of the main causes of wrinkles. Foods rich in antioxidants include blueberries, acai berries, spinach, nuts, raspberries, pomegranates, organic green tea and purple grapes. A wide variety of antioxidants need to be taken in the diet so that free radicals that cause maximum damage to the skin can be fought against. This eventually will help to get a healthy and glowing skin.
  5. Eat organic foods: The diet we take has a major impact on the health of the skin. The diet we take these days may not be free of chemicals and these chemicals render the skin dull and unhealthy. The alternative is to eat organic food which has no chemicals in it. The consumption of organic food ensures that no toxins enter the body and this keeps the blood clean and the skin healthy.
  6. Opt for natural and organic skin cleaning products: Many available skin care products contain chemicals and toxins that can be easily absorbed by the skin causing many skin disorders. The use of natural and organic skin care products ensures that the skin is not exposed to toxins as well as chemicals thus preventing the skin from developing any problems.
  7. Avoid sugar and eat healthy fats: The consumption of sugar causes wrinkles as it damages the collagen and elastin in the skin. It is essential to take good fats or fatty acids for a healthy skin as these make the skin look youthful. Foods like fish, flax seeds, nuts and avocados are good source of fatty acids and must be incorporated in the diet.
  8. Get a lot of Vitamin C: Vitamin C is essential for the production of collagen in the body. Vitamin C also prevents the skin from developing wrinkles and so it is essential for the body to get enough quantity of vitamin C for a healthy skin.
  9. Get enough sleep: Quality sleep of 8 hours is essential for rejuvenating the skin. Most skin repair takes place when we are asleep and so it is necessary to get enough sleep to get a glowing and healthy skin.
  10. Exercise: Exercising increases the circulation of oxygen and nutrients to the skin and removes toxins though sweat, this leads to a healthier, clearer and a firmer skin.
