Whether you are a student preparing for your exams or a working professional who has to stay mentally sharp to stay at the top or an ageing person trying to preserve the alertness and sharpness of your brain, the health of your brain is essential for you to retain memory. So in order to energize your gray cells you need to use memory boosters.

  • Follow a Healthy Diet-plan

A good diet consisting of vegetables, lean protein, healthy fats and whole grains is essential to improve your memory.

  • Omega 3 for your brain: The brain thrives on omega 3 fatty acids and fish is a good source of this acid. So use these memory boosters and feed your brain tuna, salmon, halibut, sardines, herring and mackerel.

  • Non-fish omega 3: You can also get omega 3 from walnuts, whole milk, butter, cream, cheese, ice cream, spinach, broccoli, kidney bean, pumpkin seeds and flaxseed.
  • Fruits and vegetables: These are packed with the so essential antioxidants which are so essential for preventing brain cell damage. The more the colorful your fruits and vegetables, the more they are antioxidant rich.
  • Green Tea: The benefits of drinking green tea are many, one of them being protection of the brain cells. Green tea contains the powerful antioxidants, polyphenols, that give protection against free radicals which can damage the brain cells. Regular consumption can also slow down your ageing and increase memory and your mental alertness.

  • Moderate wine consumption: Moderate drinking of alcohol (a glass for women and two glasses for men), especially red wine, can actually help in improving your memory and cognition. Red wine contains the flavonoid, resveratrol, which increases blood flow to the brain and reduces the possibility of Alzheimer’s disease.Keep a check on the consumption as alcohol also kills brain cells.

  • Exercise Regularly

The most important effect of physical exercise is the creation of new neuron connections and boosting of the growth factors of the brain. Physical exercise also increases the flow of oxygen to the brain which can reduce the risk of cardiovascular and other disease that induce memory loss. A physically fit body helps the brain to stay sharp.

Aerobic exercise, which keeps your blood pumping, is especially good for the brain cells and is a natural memory booster. Try to also do exercises which require the coordination of the hand and eye and so are beneficial for the brain. Focus your attention while you are running, walking, swimming or rock-climbing to maximize its benefits on the brain. So stay fit physically.

  • Get Your Beauty Sleep

You need to get 7 – 8 hours of sleep daily. Even if we are deprived of a few hours of sleep, our brain refuses to function normally. Sleep deprivation effects your memory, problem-solving abilities, creativity and critical thoughts. Sleep is essential as the crucial memory-enhancing activity occurs only during the deepest stage of our sleep.

Reduce caffeine intake, avoid TVs, phones, tablets and all screens an hour before you go to bed and make a schedule for going to bed.Make sure you give your brain the sleep that it requires to stay healthy.

  • Manage Stress

One of the worst enemies of the brain is stress with chronic stress even destroying the brain cells and damaging the hippocampus which is that region of the brain that forms new memories and retrieves old ones. The best way to deal with stress is meditation. You can also take breaks when you are working and balance your time between work and leisure. Keep yourself stress-free by socializing and meeting people and having fun.
