WHOLE GRAIN GARLIC BREAD

Garlic has been a vital part of Indian cooking. It’s distinct flavor and odor comes from its high sulfur content. The compound allicin gives garlic its medicinal values. Garlic is considered heart friendly due to its ability to reduce plaque and triglycerides. Its antioxidant properties boost blood circulation, digestion and build's immunity. Whole grain bread made from the entire wheat grain instead of just flour is packed with fiber, protein and healthy carbohydrates. This recipe combines the goodness of garlic and wheat to give you a healthy snack in less than 10 minutes.

METHOD

 In the Oven

In a bowl mix the Olive oil and 5 cloves of crushed garlic. Keep aside for 5mins. Cut the loaf of bread into 8 pieces. Preheat the oven at 180 degrees for 10 minutes. Arrange the bread on the oven tray. Now drizzle the garlic mixed olive oil liberally on it. If you like to bite in to garlic, place the garlic pieces on the bread. Sprinkle the bread pieces with basil, oregano, salt and pepper and place it in the oven for 5 minutes. Serve it hot from the oven with a dash of parmesan cheese. 

On the Gas stove

Place a tawa on a low flame for 5 mins. Prepare the bread as mentioned above. Wrap the bread pieces in aluminum foil. Wrap this with a thin cloth. Place this on the tawa for 3 minutes. Remove the bread from the aluminum foil and place it directly on the tawa for 2 minutes for the crunchy taste.

 

SUBSTITUTE

  • Normal bread slices can also be used in place of bread loaf.
  • Butter can be used instead of olive oil.
  • Cottage cheese seasoned with salt and pepper can be used in place of parmesan cheese.
