Diarrhea is often referred to as an ailment that is accompanied by loose and watery stools. Although an unpleasant experience, diarrhea helps in getting rid of bad toxins from the body. Some of the common factors contributing to this ailment include viral or bacterial infection, contaminated food and water, excessive alcohol consumption, anxiety and stress.

A person suffering from diarrhea faces symptoms like frequent bowel movements, stomach ache, vomiting, nausea, fever, appetite loss and dehydration.  Besides seeing a doctor, one can also opt for home remedies. So, let us take a look at a few of them.

  1. Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek seeds are rich in high mucilage content, which is a natural treatment for diarrhea. Fenugreek seeds basically aim at bulking up the stool and thus improve the discomfort caused due to diarrhea.

Just gulp down a spoon full of fenugreek seeds with a spoon of yogurt. Try another remedy by mixing one teaspoon of fenugreek seeds, one tablespoon of roasted cumin seeds and two tablespoons of curd together. Consume it at least three times in a day. However, do not try this remedy on small children.

  1. Chamomile

Chamomile is another great herb good for healing the symptoms of diarrhea. It helps in curing other intestinal woes as well. Owing to the antispasmodic property and presence of high amount of tannins, chamomile is a sure shot remedy for diarrhea.

All you need to do is take one teaspoon each of chamomile flowers and peppermint leaves in one cup of boiling water. Let them remain dipped for about 15 minutes and then strain it. Drink this herbal tea thrice in a day. You can also add a teaspoon of honey to sweeten this decoction. Using chamomile tea bags is also a great option for treating diarrhea.

  1. Ginger

Ginger is universally known to boost overall digestive health. Therefore, it is good for curing diarrhea.

All you need to do is mix one teaspoon each of dry ginger, cinnamon and cumin powders, and honey. Consume this concoction thrice in a day.

Ginger tea is also a great remedy to treat symptoms of diarrhea. You can make it using both dry and fresh ginger. Consume ginger tea at least three times in a day. This will help in easing both cramps and abdominal pain, which are accompanied with diarrhea.

Try another concoction by mixing equal portions of ginger juice and lemon juice. Also add some crushed pepper to it. Savor this mixture for about three times in a day for quick relief. Ginger supplements are also available in the market but do consult a doctor before popping them up. Those suffering from high blood pressure should avoid the consumption of ginger in any form.

  1. Bananas

Bananas are the best remedy to treat watery and loose stools. Like apple cider vinegar, they also contain pectin, which is a basically a type of soluble fiber. This fiber soaks in the liquid of the intestines, thereby resulting the solidification of stools. Moreover, bananas are a rich source of potassium, which covers up for the loss of electrolytes lost during watery stools. The electrolytes are usually responsible for providing energy to the body.

Take a ripe banana and mash it with the help of a fork. Add a teaspoon of tamarind pulp and a pinch of salt to it. Mix well and then consume this concoction two times in a day. This will surely take care of your an upset digestive tract.

Besides, having two ripe bananas is a great option for good digestive health.

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar possesses anti-bacterial properties, which are helpful in treating symptoms of diarrhea. The presence of a compound called pectin in apple cider vinegar works as a protective coating and therefore, soothes intestinal spasms.

Just pour in two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water. Drink it twice a day for quick results.
