With the growing stress and hectic lifestyle these days, eye strain has become a common problem. Several other reasons include lack of sleep, staring at digital devices for extended hours, reading in low light, allergies, incorrect vision prescription and exposure to bright light.

A person suffering from eye strain can suffer from a variety of problems like redness, irritation, dry or watery eyes, blurred vision, increased sensitivity to light, neck pain, and head and shoulder aches. These symptoms do not occur in the morning but tend to gradually increase during the day time as the eyes face stress and pressure.

Over-the-counter eye drops and other medications can cure your eye strain but it is best to reduce it through natural ways. We have listed down a few such natural remedies for you. Take a look.

  1. Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea bags are a great remedy to ease eye strain. It is so because chamomile herb possesses soothing and relaxing properties, which can ease stress that lead to eye strain. It also reduces the swelling around the eyes.

Just dip two chamomile tea bags in two cups of hot water for around five minutes. Now remove these tea bags and refrigerate one of them and place the other at the kitchen counter. Firstly, for the warm treatment, place the kitchen counter’s tea bag on closed eyelids for about five minutes. Now do a cool treatment after it. Place the chilled tea bag on your eyes for five minutes again. Do it two times in a day. Alternately, one can also drink two cups of chamomile tea to ease headache and stress.

  1. Rose Water

Rose water is considered to be a natural detoxifying agent. Therefore, it relaxes the mind and soothes tired eyes. Moreover, it helps in rejuvenating the skin around the eyes and reduces dark circles and puffiness.

All you need to do is just splash your eyes with some cold water and then dry them with a clean towel. Now dip two cotton balls in some rose water. Close your eyes and then place these cotton balls on your closed eyelids. Absorb the goodness of this water for about 15 minutes and then remove it. Do it for about two times in a day. Do it regularly if your job involves constant staring at the any type of screen.

  1. Cucumber

Cucumber is also known for its cooling and hydrating effect. Therefore, it is really good for the eyes. Cucumber also possesses astringent properties, which is helpful in soothing tired muscles around the eyes. Moreover, it also reduces puffiness and dark circles.

Just peel and cut a few slices of cucumber. Then keep them in the refrigerator for half an hour so that they become cool. Now put these slices on your eyelids till they come down to room temperature. Do this remedy at least two times in a week. You can also use potato in place of cucumber as it possesses similar properties.

  1. Whole Milk

Whole milk is also a useful remedy to reduce eye strain. The presence of fat in whole milk provides relaxation to tired and dull eyes. Milk is also helpful in reducing dark circles and puffiness around the eyes.

Take a cotton ball and dip it into some cold milk. Now apply the cotton ball on your eye lids and the area around. Let the milk get absorbed in the skin and provide some cooling effect. Repeat it at least once in a day for around one month.

  1. Eye Massage

Besides these remedies, eye massage is also essential for reducing eye strain. It boosts blood circulation to the eyes and relaxes the muscles. Moreover, it stimulates tear glands and thus, prevents dry eyes.

Just dab some olive oil and gently massage your eye lids and the area around with it. Massage the oil using your fingers. Do it for about a minute. You can also use an eye cream for this purpose.
