A black eye occurs due to a blow to the face. It is not only painful but can also lead to blurred vision, swelling and headache. It occurs when the tissues around the eyes get bruised.

Well, there are several reasons behind black eye and swelling. Some of the common ones are nasal injuries, jaw surgery, facelifts and allergic reaction.

Here is a list of few home remedies, which will surely help in treating a black eye and ease all its symptoms like pain and swelling. Take a look.

  1. Ice Pack

An ice pack is an effective remedy for almost all types of pains. So, next time you get a black eye, immediately apply an ice pack. This will not only reduce swelling but will stop internal bleeding too. This way it will fasten the healing process.

Just wrap a few ice cubes in a piece of cloth and place it on your eyes for around 10 minutes. Do it a couple of times in a day for quick relief. Make sure you do not rub an ice cube directly on your black eye. This is because the skin around the blackened eye is quite delicate. A pack of frozen vegetables also works in place of an ice pack.

  1. Pineapple and Papaya

Both pineapple and papaya are helpful in treating a black eye. Owing to the presence of antioxidants in them, they act as quick healers. They are good for all types of injuries that result in skin discoloration. Also, these two fruits contain enzymes that not only soften the skin but also heal it. All you need to do is apply the pulp of these two fruits around the blackened eye. Drinking their juices can also speed up the healing process.

Both pineapple and papaya are good for digestion as they contain a rich amount of fiber and water. This further boosts the metabolic rate, making you stay slim and fit.

  1. Witch Hazel

Witch hazel is a great herb often regarded as a superb healer. Therefore, it is extremely helpful in curing black eye.

Just take a piece of cotton pad soak it in witch hazel. Then place it on the affected area for a few minutes. This will surely provide relief from the pain and swelling.

Alternately, prepare a solution by mixing chamomile oil, witch hazel and water. Now, dip a soft piece of cloth in this solution and place it on your eye. Do it at least three times in a day for quick healing.

  1. Natural Oil

Massaging the black eye area can also result in healing. Therefore make sure you massage with a good natural oil. It not only provides relief from swelling but also reduces inflammation. Olive oil is a great herbal oil option as it consists of bruise-healing properties.

However, you can use other oils like coconut and castor. While massaging the black area, be gentle on your fingers and avoid any kind of pressure; it might aggravate the pain otherwise.

  1. Potato

Potatoes possess the ability to reduce swelling and pain. You can use them in various ways. Just peel and cut a potato into thick slices. Keep these slices in the fridge for half an hour. Later, place these slices on the affected eye for about half an hour. You can also apply potato juice on the affected area. To extract its juice, just grate it and squeeze out the liquid. In place of potatoes, you can use chilled cucumber slices or used tea bags as well. Using is a green tea bag is a much better option rather than the regular one.

  1. Comfrey Roots

Comfrey root is also an excellent remedy for curing black eye. It reduces the pain and swelling too. All you need to do is take some comfrey roots and water. Grind them together to get a smooth paste. Now apply this paste on the affected area.

Prepare another concoction by boiling comfrey roots in water. Dip a piece of cotton ball in it and apply on the bruised eye.
