In a healthy human body, the normal figure for the diastolic number should be below 120, and the systolic number should be below 80 though there may be slight variations in different human beings.

Variations in blood pressure due to stress, disease, diet, drugs and other external factors call for professional advice. Known as the “silent killer” because it shows no symptoms, too high blood pressure – hypertension or too low blood pressure - hypotension is an indication of health problems that need immediate attention.

While hypotension causes problems of dizziness and fainting and in extreme cases may lead to unconsciousness, seizures and even death, sustained hypertension may lead to stroke, heart attack, aortic aneurysm or kidney failure.

One of the main factors responsible for the death is heart attack that may arise due to hypertension. A person with high blood pressure will be prone to coronary artery disease (atherosclerosis), which is the building up of fatty matter or plague in the walls of the arteries. Ultimately, due to this build-up the arteries become narrow.  This blockage of the coronary arteries leads to a decrease in the flow of blood.

All these factors necessitate us to regulate our blood pressure. The first step to dealing with hypertension is a change in the lifestyle, the most important bringing change in one’s diet, introducing exercise and aiming for weight loss for obese people. All these lower high blood pressure significantly and also help to manage the blood control in the long run. Even with high hypertension medications, lifestyle modification is a must.

Organic supplements, although not a substitute for lifestyle choices to regulate blood pressure, are helpful, and any modification in lifestyle, which is essential for controlling health, can be accompanied by supplements.

  1. Obesity, which is one of the major factors in today’s world for hypertension and atherosclerosis, has to be controlled to avoid heart-related Studies have shown that high blood pressure is related to obesity. This is because insulin secretion in obese people is higher than non-obese people that lead to thickening of the blood vessels thereby increasing the blood pressure.Hence, the risk of any cardiovascular diseases increases with the increase in obesity. Change your diet in your lifestyle and as an added measure take supplements to control your weight.

  1. Studies have shown that vitamins C and E have the capability of lowering blood pressure. There may be moderate regulation of blood pressure with intake of doses of Vitamin C, which can be supplemented to regulate one’s pressure.
  2. The introduction of Nitric monoxide into the blood is another quick method of dealing with blood pressure that has the capability of opening constricted blood vessels. This can be taken care of by eating bitter melon that is rich in vitamin C and also amino acids. Organic supplements can also be taken for vitamin C.
  3. Sleep-related disorders, stress, anxiety and depression, are some of the causes of high blood pressure. There may be sudden drops of the oxygen levels in the blood which occur during sleep apnea. This increases the blood pressure and also strains the cardiovascular system. Certain supplements can be used to manage these problems and avoid the risk of high blood pressure.

  1. A daily supplement of calcium and magnesium can go a long way in lowering the blood pressure of those whose pressure in on the higher end. Though calcium supplements’ effect on the blood pressure is still an active research area, calcium supplements may lower the blood pressure by 1-2 mm Hg on an average.

An abnormal pressure progressively damages the arteries and veins thereby interfering with the blood flow. This condition is the cause of many fatal diseases, and hence, it is imperative that we regulate our blood pressure. Click here for more!
