Anemia is a very common disorder seen in Indian women. It is a medical problem where the number of red blood cells drops very low causing the person to experience weakness because of the decrease in iron content. Anemia is mainly found in pregnant women and growing children who excessively bleed during menstruation. Below are different organic foods that help to cure anemia.

Green leafy vegetables

Green leafy vegetables such as coriander, fenugreek, and spinach have a high quantity of iron and folic acid in them which is essential for regeneration of red blood cells in the body. If you have chronic anemia then green veggie soups, curries,sambar, and rotis should be consumed in the diet.

Pomegranate

Pomegranate is rich in iron, magnesium and calcium. Other these it has afair amount of vitamin C which helps in the absorption of iron in the body. Consuming pomegranate juice or seed is one of the best ways to keep the body strengthened when one has anemia.

Dates

Dates have antioxidants, Vitamin C, Vitamin B complex, and dietary fiber. Along with these nutrients, it has anabundant quantity of iron which makes it effective against anemia. Dates can be eaten by themselves or could be mixed in barfis, laddoos, cakes and chutneys.

Jaggery

Jaggery is unprocessed sugar which is used in many of the Indian households. It is rich in iron and proven to improve the hemoglobin levels in the blood when consumed on a regular basis. Instead of using white sugar, use Jaggery in coffee and tea. One can add a pinch of jaggery in sambar, rasam and dal or could be used in sweet desserts such as kheer.

Shatavari

Shatavari is an Ayurvedic medicine that is made from the plant Asparagus racemose. It is prescribed by vydyas for anemia. It is consumed as a drink after mixing it with warm milk.

Punarnava

Punarnava is another recommended Ayurvedic medicine that is used to treat anemia. It is made from Boerhaavia diffusa. Having 10 ml of punarnava juice can bring the red blood cell count to normal within two months. There are several formulations available for this medicine. It could be in liquid or pellets form. For dosage, one must consult anayurvedic physician.

Vitamin C rich fruits

Vitamin C is an important nutrient that supports the absorption of iron in the gastrointestinal tract. To get this vitamin, one must consume citrus fruits such as strawberries, oranges, grapefruit, and kiwis. One can add Lemon in curries and salads to get enriched by Vitamin C.
