Owing to the eating pattern and type of food we consume, mouth ulcers are quite common these days. They are basically painful, white-colored sores, which are usually surrounded by an inflamed redness. They generally appear on the inside of the cheeks, under the tongue, on the floor of the mouth and lips.There are myriad factors that contribute to mouth ulcers, such as constipation, hereditary factors, food triggers, hormonal changes, accidental cheek bites, excess acidity, stress and deficiencies of vitamin B complex, iron and vitamin C.Usually, these ulcers get healed within a week. But if left ignored, they can grow in size and cause several other health problems. Before opting for medication, try out a few home remedies. These are not only effective but do not have any side effects as well. Take a look at a few such remedies.
  1. Coriander Seeds

Coriander seeds are basically an Ayurvedic remedy that helps in curing mouth ulcers. It basically acts on the ulcers by reducing inflammation.All you need to do is take teaspoon of coriander seeds and add it to a cup of water. Now boil this water for a few minutes and then strain it. Once the solution cools down, take some of it in your mouth. Then swish around in your mouth for a few minutes. Follow this remedy a couple of times in a day.

Honey is also known to be a great healing agent. This is because it soothes ulcers by retaining moisture and thus, accelerates the healing process. It possesses antioxidant and anti-microbial properties, essential for healing.Just take a cotton swab and then dip it in some honey. Now apply it on the affected area. In place of honey, you can also use glycerin or vitamin E oil. In case the ulcer is caused due to a radiation therapy, try using manuka honey.

Aloe vera is known to be a natural healing and soothing agent.  Be it in gel or juice form, it is very effective in treating mouth ulcers.Just apply some fresh aloe vera gel or juice on the ulcer with the help of a cotton  swab. This remedy is also helpful in taking away bad breath.

  1. Baking Soda

Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, too is help in curing mouth ulcers. It is particularly helpful for ulcers, which are a result of acidic foods or drinks. Baking soda helps in neutralizing the effect of acid. It not only reduces inflammation but also remove harmful germs and bacteria. However, it may cause a little burning sensation too.Take one teaspoon of baking soda and mix it with a little water to get a thick paste. Now apply some of it on the affected area. Follow this remedy a couple of times in a day.Alternately, you can also apply some baking soda directly on your mouth ulcer.
