Everyone knows that smoking a cigarette is harmful to the body. But the number of people who smoke daily is quite alarming. If you are a smoker then you need to know the risks of doing it before you light up your next cigarette.

Even though everyone knows that tobacco is disastrous on health, people tend to ignore the risks involved on smoking. Based on a research, it is found that there are more than 4000 chemical substances associated with the cigarette smoke and out of which about 50 can cause cancer in a person. These substances include carbon monoxide, tax, and arsenic elements. Moreover, the cigarettes contain nicotine which causes psychological and physical addiction in people.

Smoking is one of the main reasons of death around the world. Three in ten smokers are expected to die between the ages of 35 to 70. Around 50% of the people who started smoking at the age of 20 die because of the tobacco-related disease.

Lungs are the primary organ that is impacted the most by cigarettes. It is estimated that out of all the smoking related diseases 85% of people are affected with lung cancer. Other smoking related diseases include esophagus cancer, mouth cancer, uterus cancer, bladder cancer, pancreatic cancer, and stomach cancer. Other than the cancer, tobacco consumption is considered risky for the heart and stroke. Smoking affects fertility, pregnancy and fetal development. It increases the risk of premature birth and low weight in babies.

Apart from the deadly diseases smoking can affect your everyday life in many ways.

  • It can alter the sense of taste and smell
  • It reduces your energy level in the body
  • It brings yellow teeth, unpleasant odor, prematurely aging skin etc
  • Increases the risk of anxiety and depression
  • It affects the friends, family, and colleagues
  • Smoking increases financial costs in terms of spending on cigarettes and health care

If you are addicted to cigarette smoking, it is not too late to stop smoking. With a proper action plan and assistance you can quit smoking for the better. In a few days of quitting smoking you will notice increase in your energy  levels. Also internally the risk the tobacco-related diseases fall down and body heals itself.
