Lavender oil is an essential oil obtained by distillation from the flower spikes of certain species of lavender. There are two types of lavender oil: lavender flower oil which is a colorless oil and is water insoluble and lavender spike oil, which has a higher density compared to lavender flower oil. Bulgaria is the world’s largest lavender oil producer. The Kashmir Lavender oil is obtained from the lavender that grows at the foothills of Himalaya. Lavender oil is one of the most versatile and hence one of the most used essential oils. It has therapeutic uses and comes very handy for numerous home remedies. 1. Calming Fragrance

 

One of the best things about lavender oil is that though it is used topically, it helps us to relax and calms us down. It soothes our body and mind, and removes all the negativity, anxiety and depression from our mind. Lavender oil reaches the amygdala gland which is said to control our emotions. Just drop a few drops of lavender essential oil on you palms and rub it. Now start breathing deep and inhale the lavender oil vapors from your palms. This is a great way to relax yourself and relieve anxiety on the go, and at crowded places like airplanes, public transports or overcrowded markets, etc.

 

2. Lulls To Deep Slumber

 

Thanks to the calming effect, lavender is very useful for people suffering from insomnia. The mild fragrances slowly enter your body through your nose, soothe your tired body, burst the stress and calm you down. Just rub a few drops of lavender essential oil on your pillow, rest your head on it and let it take you to the magical wonderland of dreams. Lavender also has a great effect on babies. It soothes the sore muscles of the active babies and helps them to relax. You can either rub a couple drops of lavender oil on your baby’s pillow and blanket or you can give your baby a nice massage, late in the evening with lavender oil mixed in a carrier oil like olive oil or coconut oil.

Lavender oil is widely used essential oil, to soothe bug bites. The anti-inflammatory properties of lavender oil, helps to reduce the swelling caused by insect or bug bites and the healing properties help to soothe the itching. You can also use lavender essential oil to soothe bee stings. This remedy is useful both for adults and kids.

 

4. Treats Skin Problems

 

Lavender oil is said to treat various skin problems like Eczema, Dermatitis, Psoriasis, etc. Mix one part of lavender oil with three parts of a carrier oil like almond oil, or coconut oil and apply it on your skin. This will treat most of your skin related problems. It is also useful to treat regular skin issues like dry and chapped skin, sunburns, etc.

 

5. Bleeding Nose

 

Nose bleeding is a very common problem in kids. Most babies have sensitive skin and topical application of harmful chemicals in the form of a medicine often causes more complications. In such situations, lavender essential oil is very useful. Put a drop of lavender essential oil on an ice cube and wrap it in a soft cotton handkerchief. Put this ice cube and handkerchief between the upper lip and the nose of your child and ask him/her to inhale. The cool ice will help to clot the blood and the lavender oil will soothe the irritation and stop the blood flow.

 

6. Nausea And Motion Sickness

 

Some people feel nauseated by the smell of petrol, or the constant moving of a car, bus or airplane It is advisable that these people carry lavender essential oil in their bags all the time because it relieves their anxiety. Just dab a few drops of lavender oil on the tip of your tongue, behind you ears, on your neck or on the palms, where ever you find it comfortable.
