Has your hair been feeling dry and rough lately? Do you miss the luster and softness that it once displayed? And are you tired of using all the cosmetic products that claim to return the lost glory to your mane? Then there are a few coconut oil masks you can try to make yourself and take matters into your own hands.
Coconut oil has been used for generations to improve the texture, growth and quality of hair. But mixing it with a few other ingredients can amplify the natural properties of the oil and benefit your scalp, roots and hair shaft manifold. If you want to know how to harness the properties of coconut oil to make your own hair masks, read on to find out how easy it actually is.
Honey is a moisturizing agent, while coconut oil nourishes. So this combination makes for an excellent hair treatment mask. The honey softens the hair while the coconut oil seeps deep into the scalp and nourishes the roots from within to fortify them, reduce hair fall and promote hair growth. It also helps to reduce the protein loss that occurs and will retain the moisture making your hair look smooth and shiny. Applying this mask regularly can also prevent breaking and split ends. All you need to do to prepare this mask is mix two spoonfuls of honey in coconut oil. Apply this mask all over your scalp and along the length of the hair and wrap a towel around your head before going to bed. Shampoo as usual in the morning to wash off the remaining oil and condition as well.
This hair mask acts as a deep conditioning treatment for dry and damaged hair. It smoothes the hair and eliminates the frizz making the hair voluminous and bouncy. Applying the deep conditioning mask regularly also makes unruly hair more manageable. Prepare this mask by mixing extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil. Brush your hair to remove the knots and massage in the warm oil from scalp to tip. Once you have applied the mixture to your hair, brush it out once again and then head to bed. Leave it on overnight and wash your hair as usual in the morning. But remember to first rinse your hair with cold water and then shampoo and condition as usual.
This is a hair strengthening mask and works wonderfully for fine and brittle hair. Egg, which is rich in protein makes the roots stronger and prevents hair fall. Break an egg and separate the egg yolk from the white. Now add the egg yolk to warm coconut oil and honey. Prepare the quantity of the mixture depending on the length of your hair. Massage this mask on the scalp and along the hair. You can even use a brush for application. The mask may drip, hence wear a shower cap before going to bed and leave it on overnight. You can then wash it off next morning.
Neem is very useful in hair treatments. It prevents hair graying and fortifies the roots. Applying this mixture once a week can enhance the natural color of your hair and make it look more radiant and lustrous. All you need to do is warm up some coconut oil and add a spoonful of neem powder to it. Mix it up well and apply the mask along the length of your hair and at the roots. Leave the mask on overnight and wash it off in the morning. But before you do that, wrap a warm towel around your head for ten minutes before you shower and then shampoo and condition it.
Coconut oil is an amazing little liquid that can do wonders for the health of your hair.
