With dipping outdoor temperatures and changing weather come the not so subtle and sudden changes in our skin as well. Winters demand extra care and it becomes important that with the changing weather we change our skin care products too, to help our skin adapt to the outside changes.

For skincare, time is of essence. Caring for the skin - from dried lips & face to hands and heels – right from the onset of the climatic changes saves a lot of pain and discomfort from cracked heels & lips, or dry, itchy skin.

Cold and harsh weather conditions outside cause many skin related problems and these get further aggravated by the indoor heating arrangements. Did you know that these together can result in many problems? Like:

  • Loss of skin elasticity and resultant sagging
  • Onset of wrinkles
  • Dullness of skin
  • Accelerated signs of aging on the skin
  • Breakouts, eczema, psoriasis and other skin ailments

This winter adopt an organic skincare regime to not just fight these conditions but to let your skin glow and look youthful and supple irrespective of the weather outside. Yes! This winter give your skinthe goodness of an organic beauty & skincare regime.

Two important aspects must be considered while choosing a winter skincare regime for yourself:

  • Hydration
  • Nourishment of the skin

Hydration

One must add organic skincare products that re-hydrate the skin, replacing and locking in moisture.

Some good examples of hydrating skin product categories include:

  • Exfoliant: Exfoliating products remove dead skins making room for the skin to breathe better and absorb moisturizing products more readily. They thus help even the deeper layers of the skin to get hydrated.

  • Moisturizers: Organic moisturizers like skin lotions, body and face creams and lip balms, work great in keeping the skin in good shape during the rough winter season. However, make your choice of moisturizer carefully. Buy moisturizers that contain rich oils and organic moisturizing extracts that will work their way deep into the skin making it look fresh, soft and well-hydrated, without any trace of dryness.

Buy winter skincare products that contain one or more of these excellent organic hydrants:

Shea Butter: A vegetal butter that is extracted from the seeds of the Shea tree is an extremely rich moisturizing ingredient. It is very useful in treating dry and allergy-prone winter skin, and finds good use in healing of superficial wounds and general skin irritation. It also has anti-aging and anti-wrinkle properties.

Herbs & Flower Extracts: Rose, Jasmine and Calendula among others are used in many winter skincare products for their hydrating properties.

Essential Oils: Essential oils like apricot kernel oil, organic coconut oil, argan oil, jojoba oil and hemp seed oil are considered very good nourishing, hydrating and protecting agents. They are light and an ideal friend for winter skincare with their rich vitamin A & E and Omega-3 essential fatty acid composition that imparts them anti-oxidant properties and nutritional value.

Nourishment

Nourishment of the skin is also equally important. The skin too needs food to respond to the changing climate, for repairing damages and for looking young and supple!

While most of the above organic ingredients would both hydrate and nourish the skin, some organic oils are specially found to bring a lot of goodness to the skin in the shape of their rich compositions and are potent superfoods for the skin. Oils like Sunflower oil, Neem oil, Avocado oil, Pumpkin and Grapeseed oils, are found to rejuvenate the skin, reverse skin damage and giving it radiance and lustre.

Do not forget to user toners after exfoliating your skin. Toners help in repairing and restoring the exfoliated skin surface. Choose an organic toner that is rich in fatty acids (linolenic and linoleic acid) and is alcohol free (as alcohol has a drying effect on the skin!!). Fatty acids keep the skin moist and healthy and support in fighting off signs of drying, aging and general skin deterioration.

Support your skin this winter with the right organic skincare product and safeguard it from the winter harshness.
