A house full of kids is a house full of fun and laughter. But if the kid falls sick, the house seems empty and lifeless. Parents can never see their children sick, tired and unwell. Your child can fall sick any given time of the day, any given day of the week. Your paediatrician may or may not be available at the Godly hour. For such situates it is always better to keep a few home and natural remedies handy.

 

1. Bruises

 

Remedy 1: Ice: Wrap an ice cube in a cloth and dab it on the bruise. Keep the ice cube dabbed for around half an hour. This stops the internal bleeding. You can also use a cold compress, instead of ice.

 

Remedy 2: Cumin seeds: Mix cumin seed powder with water to make a thick paste. Apply it on the bruise, this will reduce the black-blue spot.

 

Remedy 3: Apple Cider Vinegar: Soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and apply to the bruise.

 

2. Cold

 

Remedy 1: Mustard Oil: Gently rub mustard oil on the chest. The vapors will help to decongest the nose.

 

Remedy 2: Eucalyptus Oil: Boil water in a large utensil and add a few drops of eucalyptus oil. Cover the child’s head with a thick washcloth or towel and make him/her inhale the steam. This will unblock the nose. CAUTION: Ask your child to close eyes while inhaling the steam, else menthol fumes might irritate his/her eyes.

 

Remedy 3: Ginger: Boil a cup a water and add a tablespoon of fresh or powdered ginger to it. Let it steep for 10 minutes. Add a tablespoon of honey. Make your child drink this tea 2-3 times a day. Will relieve a cough and cold.

 

3. Constipation

 

Remedy 1: Almond Oil: Heat up a glass of milk and add a teaspoon of almond oil. Mix it well. Make your child drink this milk every night. Relieves from constipation.

 

Remedy 2: Fruits: Add fruits rich in fiber like papaya, orange, figs to his/her diet.

 

4. Cuts and Wounds

 

Remedy 1: Aloe Vera gel: Probably the best and most effective remedy, heals the cuts and wounds quickly. Apply aloe vera gel and gently massage it into the cut.

 

Remedy 2: Turmeric: Mix turmeric powder in milk or water and apply to the cut or wound. Wrap it with a thin cloth or gauze.

 

5. Hiccups

Remedy 1: Jaggery: Give your child a crystal of jaggery and ask him/her to suck on it.

 

6. Insect Bites

 

Remedy 1: Lavender Oil: Mix lavender oil with a carrier oil and gently massage it on the insect bite.

 

Remedy 2: Green tea bag: Apply wet green tea bag on the insect bite.

 

Remedy 3: Apply some onion juice on the insect bite.

 

7. Rashes

 

Remedy 1: Almond Oil: Gently massage with almond oil.

 

Remedy 2: Coconut oil: Gently massage with coconut oil.

 

8. Toothache

 

Remedy 1: Clove oil: Gently dab clove oil with a cotton on the aching tooth.

 

Remedy 2: Peppermint: Ask to bite peppermint leaves from the aching tooth.

 

9. Burns

 

Remedy 1: Aloe Vera gel: Apply aloe vera gel and gently massage it.

 

Remedy 2: Cut potato and directly apply it to the burn. The redness will be gone soon. This will also prevent blister.

 

10. Restlessness:

 

Remedy 1: Lavender Oil: Massage the whole body with lavender oil after mixing it with a carrier oil. You can also put a few drops of lavender oil in an oil diffuser.

 

Remedy 2: Almond Oil: Massage the whole body with almond oil. This will relax him/her and lull your child to a quick and deep slumber.

 

11. Cough

 

Remedy 1: Gargle with salt and turmeric water.

 

Remedy 2: Ginger: Make your child drink ginger tea with honey.

 

12. Diarrhoea

 

Remedy 1: Lemon and honey: Mix one lemon’s juice in warm water, add honey. Make your child drink this 2-3 times a day.

 

Remedy 2: Banana: Banana helps to soothe diarrhoea. Make him/her eat bananas after every little while.

 

13. Ear infection

 

Remedy 1: Garlic oil: Put a couple drops of garlic oil in the ear.
